Castle Rock

No longer just a dot on the map, Castle Rock has transformed itself into the thriving center of Douglas County. From its Wild West roots to its increasing presence in the business world, Castle Rock now stands on its own as a vibrant center of Colorado living. 

History

Founded in the 1870s, Castle Rock was initially put on the map because of Rhyolite mining. This brought the railroad through, and Castle Rock continued to prosper. Dairy farms and ranches brought more growth to the area. The town built a huge star atop Castle Rock in the 30s, hoping to bring visitors in during the hard Depression years. It worked, and people continued to move in and call Castle Rock home. More recently, people discovered that living in Castle Rock enabled them to have a much higher standard of living while commuting to Denver. Castle Rock now has just over 70K people, making it the largest town in Douglas County. 

Neighborhoods

The diversity of neighborhoods in Castle Rock is a huge part of the appeal. Older historic homes near the downtown date back to the turn of the century, many with rhyolite details. Modern lofts downtown have luxuries often reserved for urban downtown areas. Spacious neighborhoods such as the Meadows, Park Preserve, and Crystal Valley offer the best in everyday living. You would also be hard-pressed to find a home without views- the Front Range and rolling hills are viewable from almost all directions. 

Recreation

Castle Rock is teeming with activities and fun, no matter where your interests lie. With over 20K acres of open space and parks, Castle Rock works diligently at protecting the beauty of the area’s terrain. Seventy- five miles of bike trails, running paths, and paved trails weave through the town, with views and wildlife all around. Two recreational centers offer a plethora of activities for the entire family- pools, a trampoline park, classes, and more. Parks located within Castle Rock offer everything from Pickleball courts to a mini-incline, so that you can spend much of your time enjoying the Colorado outdoors. Festivals, Farmers Markets, and a lively summer concert series ensure that you don’t have to travel far for fun- the town works hard at providing quality activities year-round.

Shopping and dining in Castle Rock are on par with much larger cities. Shopping ranges from the vast selection at the Outlet Stores to exquisite boutiques and collections downtown. Take your pick from Cuban, Thai, Indian, Mexican, or a world famous chicken-fried steak- Castle Rock has every cuisine imaginable. 

Education

Castle Rock is part of the Douglas County School District, which is consistently recognized as one of the top districts in CO. In addition, Castle Rock has several charter schools and close proximity to highly desirable private schools. Small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and high academic success rates continue to promise that Castle Rock will remain desirable for families with school-age children in years to come.
