Highlands Ranch

Located just south of Denver, the master-planned community of Highlands Ranch provides a fantastic quality of life for all. History

While settlers have been in the area for well over a century, the Highlands Ranch community was started by the Mission Viejo Company in 1981. Denver’s own Shea Homes purchased Mission Viejo in 1997, and greatly expanded the vision for Highlands Ranch. Encompassing over 22,000 acres, and home to over 95,000 people, Shea’s vision for a vibrant and active community has come true.

Recreation

Part of the vision for Highlands Ranch was the creation of a community that encouraged an active and engaged lifestyle. Keeping that vision in mind, the vast majority of homes in the community are within a quarter-mile of either a park or open space. Highlands Ranch has over 2500 acres of dedicated open space, along with 70 miles of trails for both biking and running. Over twenty parks provide something for everyone, whether you want to play pickleball, climb playscapes with your kids, or take your dogs for a romp. Chatfield State Park runs along the west side of Highlands Ranch, offering both lake activities and a nature center to explore. Some of Denver’s best restaurants and shopping can be found in the Highlands Ranch area, so venturing beyond your own neighborhood is purely optional.
